Description

Sri Somesvara Temple has always thrived on the strength of its togetherness and the shared commitment to creating a better environment for all. For years, we have maintained the roads ourselves at Mount Soma by patching and repairing them as problems arose. That approach has carried us a long way, but the roads have now deteriorated beyond what continued patching can reasonably solve.

A recent road assessment concluded that the roads need to be repaved before winter. If we wait, further deterioration is expected to make the work considerably more expensive. Some areas have deteriorated to the point that even winter snowplowing is becoming unrealistic.

Why This Matters

Improved Safety and Accessibility

These roads serve everyone who comes to Mount Soma—residents, employees, visitors, Temple guests, and the many people who come throughout the year to visit Sri Somesvara Temple and experience the divinity of the Temple.

The roads are privately maintained and are not part of the state road system. Their maintenance and repair are therefore the responsibility of Mount Soma. Safe, dependable roads are essential to keeping the Temple and community accessible throughout the year.

Our Goal

We have patched the roads for years. We have now reached the point where patching is no longer a realistic solution.

The estimated cost of properly repairing and repaving the roads is approximately $486,000.

The breakdown of the costs is below:
Phase 1 – Road within the community
  • $56,000 Patching and Apply Tac-SS1 – 8000 Sq Ft
  • $160,000 – Mount Soma Road Pavement Rehabilitation, approximately 64,000 Sq Ft
Phase 2 – Easement to the top of Mount Soma
  • $270,000 – Mount Soma Road Pavement Rehabilitation, approximately 89,800 Sq Ft

How You Can Help

We are asking our extended community to help us get this work done before winter to avoid any future travel disruptions to Sri Somesvara Temple. The road builder and site foreman have both given input that the roads will not make it through another winter, so repair would be much more expensive if we waited until spring. Every contribution, large or small, will help rebuild the roads that bring all of us to Mount Soma and Sri Somesvara Temple. Our hope is to complete this work before winter, and we deeply appreciate your help in making that possible.
