Family Relationships: Reader Comment 4

Can you tell me, what happend if a man fill parting of women hair with sindoor without her permission. They get bounded in a relation of merriage or not. If yes why and how?

~

A marriage is a ritual in which both the husband and wife must accept each other wholeheartedly in order for their relationship to continue indefinitely. It is not just a connection on the emotional or physical level of life, but it is a connection of the souls.

Agni Dev, the fire god, is the main witness of the marriage ceremony because he is the symbol of knowledge, power, and purity. The couple gives offerings into the sacred fire to emphasize the couple’s joint responsibility to maintain the love and dignity of their union. They declare out loud that they have become one and will forever love each other and remain ultimately devoted for the remainder of their lives. Applying sindoor is only one part of the ritual.

The couple should love, cherish, and respect one another from their wedding day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, and forever live together. Together they will create a home full of joy and laughter, where they can find serenity and strength. Together they will share a steadily deepening love which grows in understanding and consideration.

Dear Panditji,

Pranam

I am having a single stone in the gall bladder. The Size of the stone is about 15mm. Request you to kindly guide for Ayurvedic medicine for the same.

~

We will give only Vedic spiritual recommendations, not Ayurvedic recommendations. Therefore, it is suggested that you see a healthcare professional.

It would be good to learn proper meditation. It will decrease your stress and strain, and help you access your own master plan for health.

Emotions: Reader Comment 3

Dear Panditji,
How is the best way to deal with feelings of anger and fear that rise up? Thank you for your kind insights.

When feelings of anger or fear rise up in the moment, it is best to be silent.  No talking to anyone.  Be silent for a few minutes or however long it takes for the emotion to calm down.  Reflect on the situation.  Then, talk and act from that deeper place.

Reader’s Comments #2

Pandit Prasad, could you talk about the benefit and malefic aspects of emotions? How can they serve to enrich? How can they be balanced and maintained balanced?

AND

Hi Pandit! I have been exploring my anger and frustration as in the past I was very uncomfortable with them, to the point that I didn’t know they were there. Recently I have been experiencing body discomforts that I believe are related to this repression. Do you have any suggestions to help this process? Thanks so much!

Some people try to categorize emotions as good or bad, benefic or malefic.  For example, love could be categorized as benefic and anger as malefic.  However, if a person feels love for a drug, it becomes malefic.  The mother of a child who is attacked needs to be angry in order to protect her child (benefic).

Rather than categorizing, it can be more helpful to ask yourself if the emotion you experience is helping or hurting the situation.  Is it life supporting or not?

Emotions are generally best kept within certain limits.  Too much emotion can be harmful.  For example, indulging in a lot of anxiety or fear for a long period of time can cause severe emotional, mental, and physical imbalances.  And, sometimes too little emotion can be harmful.  Repressing emotions can cause emotional, mental, and physical problems over time.

Emotions, if they are in balance, add to your relationship with everything, especially people.  Our relationship with other is many times experienced with emotion.

Emotions can help us become self-aware.  They can be a path to get to know yourself more deeply.

Emotions, which contribute to your tonal quality, affect how you see yourself and everything.  Your tonal quality affects how you treat yourself and everything/everyone around you.

Emotional balance can be assisted with meditation, mantras, and prayers.  These are activities that can help people become established more deeply in themselves.  Reflecting on thoughts and emotions so they have less control over your mind and your life can also be helpful.

Food affects emotions.  The quality of food a person eats can account for 80% or more of how a person is feeling emotionally.  Food and drink should be vegetarian and sattwic (pure).

Rudrabhishekam is the most powerful puja to help balance emotions.  The moon mantra (Shiva is moon) can be helpful for emotional balance: Om Sum Chandraya Namaha.

How to most help yourself emotionally:  “Positivity, the unyielding commitment to the Divinity within you.”  – Maharshi Maheshananda

Dear Pandit. What music do you recommend to inspire holy, transcendent or devotional feelings in children while they sleep? Is it the same for adults?

~

Sama Veda is best.  Ghandarva Veda ragas for sleep are also very good.  The same is recommended for adults.  The Transcendental Meditation group has been a resource for recordings of these.

Thank you Pandit!

When/how should children begin to learn about money needs? I was sheltered from bankruptcy many times and it made it harder to appreciate my parent’s later successes whereas my business partner had to have his girls do their homework in his truck while he worked and they have met the President twice because of their scholarship. There seems to be benefits to each.

Children learn about money needs slowly, as they get older.  When they are young and want to get a toy, it can start with letting them know there is not money for a toy right now or buying them a much less expensive toy.

When they are older, if you do want to buy them a toy, clothes, or food out, it can be letting them know the toy, clothes, or food options you can afford.

As they get a little older, it might be explaining that a toy is extra and there is only enough money for essentials.

When they get older still, it could be explaining that once they complete their education and get a good job, they will have more money for extras.

We are talking about children learning over time:

1)     The value of money
2)     How to accept boundaries or limitations
3)     How to prioritize
4)     That desires can be satisfied in the long term, rather than having to have it immediately
5)     Responsibility

These are some basic principles that will help them as they live their life.

I welcome any of Pandit’s thoughts on raising a child. An area of specific concern is how to encourage an interest in the Vedas while living in a Christian dominated culture, where most of the people we encounter would be threatened by our core beliefs and spiritual practice.

I love this new section of the website!

When your child is growing, then make sure to teach the Vedic moral values which are basic human values. It is not important to teach Vedic gods or Vedic terms since the terms can get confused with Hinduism. The main thing is to learn Vedic principles which are the fundamental principles for human life.

Starting at age 3 to 5, it can be helpful to bring a child to ceremonies at Sri Somesvara. It is a good age to start learning some of the Vedic customs and the child is very receptive to positive and healthy vibrations. It can be particularly helpful for a child to attend a Ganesh puja to receive the blessings of Lord Ganesh.

Do the vedas recommend a proportion or formula that children and spouses benefit from experiencing family struggles? The extreme would be shielding them totally from stress but at the risk of lost appreciation or shared learning experiences.

_____________________

Regarding how much stress children should be exposed to, children should grow up in a normal living environment.  Per the Ramanaya, the family is always together and a strong family unit.  All family relationships are based on mutual respect and strong morals.  First is mother and father.  If there are any problems with mother or father such as sickness, if the children are old enough, they are responsible for helping their parents.

If a parent is mentally or emotionally unstable, then it is best to keep that person away from the children.  Family members should not drink or engage in any bad habits in front of the children.  The children should not be learning these things.  Parents should not fight or argue in front of the children.  The children are innocent and need to learn good habits.

For family struggles, it is recommended to sponsor Rudrabhishekam daily for a few months.  The mantra recommendation is Om Shankaraya Namaha with a strand of rudraksha beads (108 iterations per day).  Also recommended is daily meditation.

It is important to remember that the benefit of pujas and havans is at a very deep level that has long term material and spiritual effects, this lifetime and future lifetimes.  The more a person approaches these ceremonies with sincere openness and humility, the more powerful the results.
